The Rita Bhargava Mukerji Memorial Charitable Trust (RBMMCT) aims to commemorate the memory of Mrs Rita Mukerji by engaging in donations and charity that were close to her heart in life.
One of her oft repeated sentiments was that “हमें जो कुछ मिलता है वह ईश्वर की धरोहर और समाज की सम्पदा है” (whatever we get is divine legacy and the wealth of the society). These words of Rita Mukerji form the leitmotif of all activities of the RBMMCT.
The Trust has committed a donation of Rupees five crore to the Delhi University representing the entire cost of the First Floor of a new eight storey construction of the Faculty of management Studies (FMS) coming up, adjoining the existing FMS building, within the University campus.
Rita Mukerji owed her mid-career change and sustained growth to the management skills bestowed upon her by the FMS. Her daughter followed Rita Mukerji in doing her MBA at the FMS and it was one of Rita Mukerji’s ardent desires that this institute of excellence should have the wherewithal to produce the brightest and best crop of India’s managers. Rita Mukerji, in her lifetime, donated liberally to charitable causes in an unostentatious and usually anonymous manner. The thrust of the charity was on shelters for the homeless and the destitute, education of the girl child and care for the disadvantaged elderly.
The RBMMCT has pledged itself to carrying on charitable work in these areas. A beginning has been made by gifting TV sets to NGOs engaged with the children of EWS families and working towards women’s empowerment.
Trustees of the RBMMCT would welcome contacts with NGOs and charitable societies or organisations that are dedicated to the ideals of Rita Mukerji that have inspired the Trust. Rita Mukerji also felt deeply about health care and looked forward to associating with charitable clinics and hospitals that provide free or subsidised health care services to the needy.
In keeping with her wishes, this Trust is looking forward to cooperating with basic health care (including rural health management) initiatives which may, inter alia, also be focused on child nutrition, vaccination, health of the girl child and preventive health checks besides providing affordable access to specialty hospitals.
Trustees of the RBMMCT have decades of experience at senior levels in the areas of corporate management, finance, law and public security. The Trust is, therefore, adequately equipped to evaluate and donate to charitable projects of sizable magnitude. To quote Rita Mukerji “To do charity is to obey God’s wishes”.
All her life, even in the early, struggle filled years, Rita Mukerji would make sure that a certain moiety saved from meeting the ends of the family, would inevitably find its way to those less fortunate. Wealth was never regarded, by her, as something to hoard; but as a gift to be shared with fellow beings in need. Every small step that this Trust takes will be determined and shaped by the inspiring ideals of Rita Mukerji and to impart reality to her vision of doing as much good to humanity as she possibly could. In the words of Mother Theresa “Its not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving”.
